This is much more than a film-and-television market
Actors searching for Orlando opportunities are often shown only film listings. The city's real performance economy is broader—and offers several very different ways to work.
Disney and Universal both run their own audition portals — they do not cast through local agencies, and no casting board can list their roles for them. That is why every generic Orlando page misses them.
Universal is currently casting Scareactors for Halloween Horror Nights, running select nights from late August to early November, and costumed character performers for Epic Universe. Postings specify height ranges and require a profile with headshot, résumé, full-length photo and audition video.

Orlando is a cruise-line casting hub. Norwegian and Virgin Voyages both hold open auditions here for vocalists and dancers, with current calls for 2026 production shows.
This is contracted, full-time, paid-and-housed work — a genuinely different proposition from day rates — and it is cast out of this city. If you sing or dance and you live in Orlando, this route is sitting in front of you and almost nobody mentions it.
Beyond the parks, independent haunted attractions hire for the season with published training dates — mid-September onward this year. No experience required on most calls.
It is seasonal and physical, and it is one of the easiest first paid performing credits available in this city.
Established event companies carry standing openings for lead vocalists covering weddings, corporate events, casinos and concerts. Steady, repeat, unglamorous, well-paid.
Alongside it: national brand-ambassador and experiential programmes hiring promotional and event staff at $20–35 an hour.
Feature and series volume here is modest, and the honest answer is that Florida has had no statewide film incentive since 2016. But the commercial market is a different story — see the rates below.
SeaWorld also casts real families and friends groups locally, and there is steady short-film and independent activity.
Commercial work can pay far more than local film work
Orlando's tourism-driven commercial market regularly casts real people and families—and many jobs include valuable usage payments beyond the shoot-day fee.

The $500 figure is explicitly session plus usage. The day rate is not the number that matters — what the client is buying is the right to run it. An actor negotiating the shoot fee and ignoring the usage terms is negotiating the smaller half.
You can begin before you have professional headshots
A SAG-AFTRA franchised Orlando agency — continuously franchised since 1994, holding a Florida talent agency licence — states plainly that professional headshots are not required for an initial submission. Phone photos in good light are fine.
That contradicts the assumption almost every beginner arrives with: that there is a several-hundred-dollar spend standing between them and being seen. There isn't, at least not here, at least not first.
Florida licenses talent agencies — ask for the number
A legitimate Florida agency holds a state licence in the format TA-xxxxxxxx. Asking for it takes one sentence and it is a concrete, checkable credential.
And the usual rule underneath it: a real agent earns commission on work you book. Money should never flow from you to them first. SAG-AFTRA franchises agents, not managers.
If film and television are your only goals, know the tradeoff
Florida's statewide film incentive expired in 2016 and has not been renewed. What exists instead is a patchwork of county programmes — Orange County launched its own rebate in 2026, and whether it has reached actors yet is a separate question from whether it exists.
The consequence is real. Screen production here has not recovered to what it was, and an actor who moves to Orlando expecting a film market will be disappointed. An actor who moves here to perform will not.
Does park work count as a credit?
It is professional performing employment, paid, contracted and demanding. Whether a given casting director weights it the same as a screen credit varies — but the skills it builds are real, and the argument that it is somehow not acting comes mostly from people who have not done it.

Common questions
Do I need to be a dancer or singer for park work?
For show and parade performance, usually yes. Character performance is a different discipline with height and physicality requirements rather than vocal ones. The portals specify per role — read the posting, because these are genuinely different jobs.
Can you make a full-time living performing in Orlando?
Yes, and that is unusual. Between park contracts, cruise lines, seasonal haunt work and the live event circuit, this is one of the few US cities where performing is a job with a schedule rather than a series of gigs.
Is there film and TV work outside the parks?
Some, and less than there was. Florida has had no statewide incentive since 2016 and screen production has not recovered. Commercial work is the healthier part of the screen market — and it pays well.
Should I look at Miami or Tampa too?
Tampa is about 85 miles and genuinely commutable. Miami is 235 miles and a different industry entirely — Spanish-language television rather than live performance. Choosing between Orlando and Miami is choosing between two careers, not two cities.
