Commercial Casting Calls and Auditions

Commercial work pays differently from film and television. You are usually cast for a specific, recognisable type, the audition is short, and the money is driven as much by usage and term as by the shoot day itself.

These are the live commercial notices on our board. Where the production has given us usage terms and a rate, you will see them on the listing before you decide to submit.

How this work runs

Read the usage before the rate

A one-day shoot with a two-year national broadcast buyout is a very different job from the same day with a six-month regional web cut. Usage and term decide what the job is actually worth.

Self-tapes are the norm

Most first-round commercial auditions are a slate plus a short read or improvised scenario. Keep the framing clean, the energy specific and the file named exactly the way the notice asks.

Conflicts matter

If you are already running in a spot for a competing brand, you are usually ineligible. Track your conflicts and their end dates before you submit.

Questions actors ask

What is a buyout?

A buyout is a single payment that covers the advertiser's right to use the finished spot for an agreed term and set of media, instead of paying residuals each time it runs.

How should I slate for a commercial audition?

Unless the notice says otherwise: name, height if asked, and your agency or 'self-submitted'. Keep it brief and friendly, then go straight into the read.

Do I need commercial-specific headshots?

A commercial look is generally brighter and more open than a theatrical one. It helps, but a strong, current headshot that reads as approachable will do for most submissions.
