Remote auditioning means the first round happens as a tape you record and send rather than a room you walk into, which widens the map considerably — you can be considered for a production in another market before anyone books travel. What it moves onto you is the technical side: your framing, your sound and your reader are now part of the audition. Casting still judges the performance, but they judge it through whatever your setup delivers.
